After an early breakfast at 5:30 AM, you will drive for about one hour to the Rushaga sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, the only place where the Gorilla Habituation Experience is offered. Before entering the forest, you will receive a briefing from the park rangers. The resort will also provide a packed lunch for the day.
Unlike a standard gorilla trek, this unique experience allows you to spend up to four hours with a semi-habituated mountain gorilla family. Accompanied by experienced rangers, researchers, and trackers, you’ll follow fresh signs such as footprints, broken branches, and feeding trails until you find the gorillas.
The walk can be challenging, taking you through dense rainforest, muddy paths, and steep hills. However, every step is worth it.
When you finally meet the gorillas, you’ll have the rare opportunity to watch them as they feed, play, groom one another, and interact naturally. Because they are still becoming used to people, their behaviour is often more natural and unpredictable than that of fully habituated gorilla families. This makes the experience feel even more authentic.
Your guides will explain the gorillas’ behaviour and show you how to move calmly and respectfully around them. As you quietly observe the family from a safe distance, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of their social lives and the important conservation work that helps protect them.
After this unforgettable experience, you’ll return to Mutanda Lake Resort, where the rest of the afternoon is yours to relax. Enjoy the peaceful surroundings, take in the beautiful views across Lake Mutanda, and reflect on a day you’ll remember for the rest of your life.
