Good hiking shoes should not be missing from your luggage – hiking is part of the safari experience in Uganda. And that is no punishment. Quite the opposite: on foot, you see the country at its best. You get closer to nature, meet people in a very relaxed way, and discover places that you would easily pass by in a vehicle.
Uganda is best known for its dense populations of primates. Mountain gorillas, Chimpanzees, and Golden monkeys live in the rainforests of the southwest.
But there are many others animals you can see on a safari in Uganda. Think of elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, leopards, zebras, ostriches, hippos, crocodiles, lions, antelopes, and hyenas. There is almost no animal imaginable that you cannot see in Uganda.
A safari is exciting, but it can also be quite intense. You are always on the move and taking in new sights and experiences. Because of that, most people also feel the need to slow down and relax for a while. We are sometimes asked whether it is a good to end a Uganda tour with a few days at the beach in Kenya or Tanzania. Yes, that is possible. But it is not usually what we recommend.Â
In our experience, it is far more enjoyable to plan your safari at a more relaxed pace from the start. And the good news is that this is very easy to do. If you allow yourself a little more time, you can relax beautifully between activities and fully enjoy each destination – you don’t need a beach for that.
