Day 1: Travel to Kibale Forest & Bigodi Swamp Walk

Your adventure begins in the morning with a warm welcome and a short briefing from your guide. Then, you’ll set off for Kibale Forest National Park, enjoying a scenic drive through rural villages, lush tea plantations, dense rainforests, and sparkling crater lakes. On a clear day, you may even see the snow-capped Rwenzori Mountains, rising like something from a storybook.

Along the way, you’ll stop for lunch in the vibrant town of Fort Portal before continuing to your lodge near Kibale. Upon arrival, the forest will immediately feel alive, trees full of leaping monkeys, colorful birds flying overhead, and the sounds of the jungle all around.

After settling into your lodge and taking some time to relax, you’ll head out for a guided Bigodi Swamp Walk, a peaceful introduction to the wildlife and beauty of the area. Just outside the park, the Bigodi Wetland is a community-run reserve teeming with wildlife. With a local guide, you’ll walk along wooden boardwalks and forest paths through the lush swamp. You will see monkeys such as red colobus, red-tailed, and L’Hoest’s monkeys, and many colorful birds. Your guide will also teach you about local plants and the traditions of nearby communities.
