4-Day Gorillas & Chimp Safari

Your safari begins with a pick-up from your hotel in Entebbe or Kampala, or from Entebbe International Airport. After a short briefing, you will set off west towards Kibale National Park. The drive takes about 5 hours and offers a wonderful introduction to Uganda. Along the way, you’ll pass rolling hills, tea plantations, small villages, and colourful roadside markets.

Around midday, you will stop in the beautiful town of Fort Portal for lunch. Set beneath the Rwenzori Mountains, also known as the Mountains of the Moon, Fort Portal is famous for its cool climate, scenery, and endless tea estates.

After lunch, continue to the nearby Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary for a guided nature walk. This community-run reserve is one of Uganda’s best birdwatching spots and is also home to several monkey species and colourful butterflies. Keep an eye out for the spectacular great blue turaco, one of the area’s most sought-after birds.

Later, continue to your lodge near Kibale National Park. Covering 776 km², Kibale is one of Africa’s finest rainforest destinations and is home to one of the highest concentrations of primates on the continent. Around 1,500 chimpanzees live here, together with red-tailed monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabeys, black-and-white colobus monkeys, L’Hoest’s monkeys, and many other species.

The forest is equally impressive for its rich plant life, with more than 350 tree species recorded. Kibale also connects to Queen Elizabeth National Park through an important wildlife corridor, allowing elephants and other animals to move naturally between the two protected areas.

Arrive at your lodge in the late afternoon, relax, and enjoy your first evening surrounded by the sights and sounds of the African rainforest.
