Tour Overview
On this 6-day fly-in Uganda safari, you will trek through the rainforest of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in search of mountain gorillas and then continue to Queen Elizabeth National Park for savannah game viewing. When you arrive at Entebbe International Airport, our driver-guide will meet you and take you to your hotel near the airport.
The next morning, you fly to Kihihi Airstrip, a journey of about 1 hour and 45 minutes, before continuing by road to your lodge near Bwindi. The following day, you head into the forest with experienced park rangers to find a family of wild gorillas. The trek can take 2 to 6 hours, but once you find the gorillas, you can spend a precious hour watching them as the young ones play, mothers care for their infants and the silverback keeps watch.
After Bwindi, we drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park for game drives in search of elephants, buffaloes, lions, leopards and other wildlife. You will also enjoy a boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel, where hippos, crocodiles and waterbirds gather along the water. It is a short safari, but you get to see and experience a remarkable amount of Uganda.

Day 1: Arrive in Uganda
Welcome to Uganda! When you arrive at Entebbe International Airport (EBB), a Choose Uganda Safaris representative will be there to meet you and transfer you to your hotel.
Entebbe sits on the shores of Lake Victoria (Africa’s largest lake) and is a peaceful place to begin your safari, especially after a long flight. Depending on your arrival time and how you feel, you can take a gentle walk around town, visit the Entebbe Botanical Gardens, browse local markets for crafts and souvenirs, or enjoy a relaxing boat cruise on Lake Victoria.
If you would rather take it easy, you can simply settle into your hotel and enjoy a quiet evening.
The rest of the day is free for you to relax or explore Entebbe at your own pace. If you would like to add another activity, we can arrange it for you.

Day 2: Flight Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
After breakfast, you will be transferred back to Entebbe International Airport for your morning scheduled flight to Kihihi Airstrip. The flight takes just over an hour and gives you beautiful views of Uganda’s countryside along the way.
From Kihihi, you continue by road through local villages and winding mountain roads towards Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The drive takes around 90 minutes.
Bwindi is one of Uganda’s most remarkable natural treasures and one of the richest ecosystems in Africa. The forest is home to more than 120 mammal species, 345 bird species, around 200 butterfly species and 160 tree species. Most famously, it protects almost half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas, making your time here especially meaningful.
Once you arrive, you can spend the afternoon relaxing at the lodge or choose one of the optional activities available in the area.
Buhoma Community Village Walk: Take a guided walk through the local community and visit places that give you a glimpse into everyday life. You can meet a traditional healer, visit a local banana brewery and support community-run initiatives along the way.
Bwindi Forest Walk: Accompanied by a Uganda Wildlife Authority guide, you can explore the forest trails and discover its rich plant life and wildlife, including monkeys. One of the most popular options is the 3–4-hour walk to the beautiful forest waterfall.

Day 3: Gorilla Trekking and Relaxation
Today is the big day. After breakfast, you will head to the park headquarters for a briefing with the local guides from Uganda Wildlife Authority before setting off into Bwindi Forest in search of a mountain gorilla family. The trek starts at around 8:00am and can take anywhere from about 45 minutes to several hours, depending on where the gorillas are that day.
The forest can be steep and challenging in places, but once you find the gorillas, you quickly forget about the effort. You may watch the young ones playing, mothers caring for their babies, or the silverback keeping an eye on the family. Being so close to these incredible animals, in the middle of their natural forest home, is something you are unlikely to forget.
You may also come across other forest wildlife along the way, including monkeys, duikers and different species of squirrels.
After the trek, you will return to the starting point, receive your gorilla trekking certificate and enjoy a packed picnic lunch. The afternoon is then yours to relax at the lodge or take some time to explore the surrounding Bwindi community.

Day 4: On to the savannahs of Queen Elizabeth National Park
After breakfast, you leave the green hills of Bwindi behind and drive towards Queen Elizabeth National Park. The journey takes around 3 to 4 hours, and the scenery gradually changes from dense forest and mountain landscapes to the open, golden savannahs of the park.
As you approach Queen Elizabeth, keep your eyes open for wildlife along the way. If you are lucky, you may even spot the famous tree-climbing lions of Ishasha resting in the branches. You will arrive at your lodge in time for a late lunch, followed by some time to relax before heading out for your first game drive in the afternoon.
Known locally simply as “Queen”, Queen Elizabeth National Park is Uganda’s most visited national park, and it is easy to see why. Covering almost 2,000 square kilometres, the park brings together an incredible variety of landscapes, from open grasslands and forests to wetlands, crater lakes and the Kazinga Channel, which connects Lake George and Lake Edward. It is home to around 95 mammal species and more than 600 bird species, giving you plenty to look out for as you explore.
After your game drive, you return to the lodge for dinner and a relaxing evening.

Day 5: Safari activities Queen Elizabeth National Park
Today is dedicated to nature in Queen Elizabeth National Park. In the morning, you will go on a game drive through the park, and in the afternoon, you will take one of the most spectacular boat safaris the African continent has to offer. Between activities, you will enjoy lunch and a moment of rest at your accommodation.
There are also several great optional activities that can be booked. See options below. To schedule this, you will either need to book an extra day at this park or replace one of the planned activities.
Game Drive – Morning
After an early breakfast, you drive towards the rising sun during the safari. In the morning, mist still hangs over the savannas, and you hear the typical sounds of the African wilderness. An ideal start to a day in nature!
Boat Safari – Afternoon
Queen Elizabeth National Park is surrounded by Lake Edward and Lake George. These lakes are connected by the natural Kazinga Channel, which is teeming with wildlife! A boat trip along this channel is therefore one of the absolute highlights of your visit to the park. You will rarely see so many hippos in a single day! In addition to the hippos, you can spot enormous crocodiles, bathing buffaloes, and a huge variety of birds. When you also see a group of elephants spraying each other with water, you know your day has been a complete success!
Predator Tracking – Morning (optional)
This excursion takes place in the morning.
Gorge Kyambura trekking (optional)
Today you will take a truly magnificent hike through the Kyambura Gorge! The gorge is an 11 km long fissure running straight through the savannah of Queen Elizabeth National Park. Hidden within the gorge lies a beautiful stretch of tropical rainforest, situated along the banks of the Kyambura River. This rainforest is home to snakes, chimpanzees, and other animal species. Rangers make it a sport to spot the chimpanzees, but the chance of seeing them is about 50%. Therefore, above all, enjoy the hike itself, as it is one of the most beautiful hikes you can take in this country. It is an adventurous hike involving scrambling and climbing.
Private Boat Safari – Afternoon (optional)
You can book this activity on a private boat. This offers enormous added value compared to the large general boat, as a small boat allows you to get much closer to the wildlife. You also set the pace yourself, and it is wonderful to share this experience exclusively with your own group.

Day 6: Domestic flight to Entebbe - Return home
After breakfast, your driver-guide will take you to Kasese Airstrip for your scheduled flight back to Entebbe. The flight takes around 1 hour and 45 minutes and saves you a long road journey, while giving you one last chance to enjoy Uganda from above. On a clear day, you may see the snow-capped Rwenzori Mountains, Lake Victoria and the countryside stretching out below.
Once you arrive in Entebbe, your arrangements will depend on the time of your international flight. If you have several hours before departure, we can arrange a day room at a nearby hotel where you can freshen up, relax and have something to eat before your flight. The day room and meals are not included in the safari price, but we are happy to arrange them for you if needed. Later, your driver-guide will transfer you to Entebbe International Airport for your onward flight home, bringing your Uganda adventure to an end.
