Access and Location

Turaco Treetops sits on a 5.2-hectare forest property near Kibale Forest National Park in western Uganda. The park gate for chimpanzee tracking is just a 10-minute drive from the lodge. Most guests arrive via Entebbe International Airport and take a domestic flight to Kasese Airstrip. From there, it’s a scenic two-hour drive through lush tea plantations and rolling green hills. You can also drive from Kampala or Entebbe directly, which takes about 5 to 6 hours. The journey is long but rewarding, with views of villages, markets, and Uganda’s beautiful countryside.

Accommodation at Turaco Treetops

Turaco Treetops has 16 rooms in total: 8 luxury forest cottages and 8 standard rooms. Both options give guests excellent comfort and peaceful forest views at good prices.

Luxury Forest Cottages

The luxury cottages are large and private, set apart in the forest. Each cottage has:

  • Extra-long double or twin beds with soft white sheets and mosquito nets
  • A private bathroom with hot shower and flushing toilet
  • A seating area inside for reading or relaxing
  • A large wooden deck with chairs to enjoy forest and mountain views

The standard rooms are simpler but very comfortable. They are found in four duplex buildings hidden in the forest. Each room includes;

Main Lodge and Dining

#1 Chimpanzee Trekking

Kibale National Park is home to over 1,500 chimpanzees. You can join guided walks in the forest to watch these playful animals swinging in the trees. The treks usually last 2 to 3 hours, and guides explain everything about the chimps and the forest. For a longer experience, guests can join the Chimpanzee Habituation Program and spend more time with a chimp family and researchers.

#2 Nature Walks

Short guided walks start right from the lodge. These walks focus on birds, butterflies, trees, and small animals. It is a relaxing way to learn about the forest and enjoy the sounds of nature.

#3 Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary

A short drive from the lodge, this community project protects swamps full of monkeys and colorful birds. The guided walk takes about 2 hours, and it’s a great way to support local conservation while enjoying nature.

#4 Crater Lakes and Tea Plantation Tours

The area around Kibale is dotted with beautiful crater lakes. You can go hiking, biking, or even canoeing while enjoying views of the green hills. You can also visit nearby tea plantations and learn how Uganda’s famous tea is grown and processed.

#5 Village Visits

Guests can visit nearby Bigodi and Nkingo villages to meet local families, learn about traditional farming, and see everyday Ugandan life. These visits help the community and give travelers a real cultural experience.
