This 10-Day Uganda Family Safari is specially designed for families with children. Discover the beauty of Uganda, enjoy a variety of exciting activities, and immerse yourself in Uganda’s fantastic wildlife. The safari is suitable for children aged 4 and up. The selected activities are family-friendly and offer a balanced mix of wildlife viewing, nature experiences, and cultural encounters. Older family members can optionally participate in chimpanzee trekking in Budongo Forest Reserve (minimum age 12). Day 1 | Arrival Entebbe Airport, Meet & Greet

Welcome to Entebbe where your exciting family tour of Uganda begins. As soon as you step off the airplane and breathe in the pleasantly warm, tropical air, you will leave everyday life behind. At Entebbe International Airport (EBB), your Uganda tour guide will greet your family with a beaming smile and a name sign. “The Pearl of Africa”—that is what Sir Winston Churchill once called this fascinating East African country, deeply impressed by its lush nature. A name that stands like a promise over your family trip. A short, relaxed drive will take you to your accommodation. Settle in and enjoy a refreshing drink in the tropical garden, preparing for the great adventures of the coming days. Sparkling children’s eyes are guaranteed from the very first moment!

Day 2: Entebbe – Lake Albert (Kabwoya Wildlife Reserve) (Travel time approx. 6 hours)

On the second day of your family tour, enjoy your first African breakfast before embarking on your adventure into the wilderness. You leave the city of Entebbe behind and travel westward towards the magnificent Lake Albert. The drive takes you through diverse landscapes and past colorful Uganda villages. On arrival at Lake Albert, you check into your comfortable family friendly accommodation. After your drive, a dip in the refreshing pool will be especially welcome. In the late afternoon, as the sun dips lower and the temperatures become more pleasant, you enjoy your very first game drive together. Observe antelopes and common warthogs in the soft evening light before ending the day with a leisurely dinner and the sounds of the African night.

Day 3: Lake Albert (Kabwoya Wildlife Reserve)

This day is an absolute dream for explorers of all ages! In the morning after breakfast, you will take a beautiful nature walk and a real fossil hunt. Equipped with curiosity and a spirit of discovery, you will search for traces in the earth millions of years old – an experience that will amaze not only the children. Back at the lodge in the afternoon, the pool beckons for a refreshing dip before you set off on another nature game drive. The absolute highlight awaits you after nightfall: a bush dinner under the African stars. Afterwards, you will embark on an exciting night game drive! Equipped with spotlights, you will search the darkness for nocturnal animals whose eyes gleam in the beam.

Day 4: Lake Albert – Murchison Falls National Park (travel time approx. 4 hours)

Have a hearty breakfast and check-out from the lodge to leave for Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s largest protected area. This is the highlight of your Uganda Family Vacation. Anticipation builds as you enter the home of giraffes, elephants, buffalos, and lions! You arrive at your accommodation on the banks of the Nile River just in time for lunch. After everyone has eaten, you set off in the afternoon to explore the wildlife-rich savannahs of the park. The open view from the safari vehicle of grazing herds and the vast landscape brings the family closer together. In the evening, you listen to the gentle flow of the Nile from the terrace.

Day 5: Murchison Falls National Park

Spend another beautiful day in Murchison Falls National Park and make the most of your Uganda family holiday. You will enjoy an extensive game drive into the Nile Delta (where the Nile enters Lake Aibert. Where the river branches, waterways, palm trees, acacias, and dense riparian vegetation create a magnificent backdrop. This area is among the best regions of Murchison Falls National Park for wildlife viewing. With a bit of luck, encounter herds of African elephants, African buffalo, lions, and leopards, as well as the rare Rothschild’s giraffe and various antelope species. Countless hippos and Nile crocodiles can be observed along the banks and in the water. Over 450 bird species, including the rare shoebill stork, call this area home.

The afternoon is dedicated entirely to your family: a private boat trip on the Nile offers a leisurely ride upstream to the bottom of the Murchison falls, providing wonderful opportunities to observe hippos, crocodiles, buffalo, elephants, and other animals near the riverbanks. Afterward, you will visit the “Top of the Falls.” Here you can experience the immense power of nature up close: The mighty Nile River forces its way through a narrow gorge just seven meters wide and plunges explosively 43 meters into the depths below. On hot days, the rising spray provides a wonderful, mystical cooling effect and paints rainbows across the air. End your day in a relaxed atmosphere and enjoy the fantastic view of the Nile.

Day 6: Murchison Falls National Park

Use the morning for another exciting game drive, perhaps to tick off any animal species that were still missing from your sightseeing list. You can spend the afternoon entirely as you please: relax by the lodge pool, read a book in the shade, or play games together while the monkeys frolic in the trees around you. Those who still have a hankering for the wilderness in the late afternoon can embark on another game drive.

Day 7: Murchison Falls– Budongo Forest – Ziwa (travel time approx. 3 hours)

You bid farewell to the vast savannah of Murchison Falls National Park and enter the lush greenery of the Budongo Rainforest. Here, you will embark on a nature walk beneath towering mahogany trees, where countless butterflies and forest birds will cross your path. (Optionally, and for an additional fee, older family members can also participate in a chimpanzee trekking adventure)

After a hearty lunch in the small town of Masindi, the route continues to the Ziwa Rhino and Wildlife Ranch, the best place in Uganda to see wild rhinos roaming free. On arrival, you can relax after the journey and enjoy the tranquil atmosphere of your accommodation. With a bit of luck, you might even spot some of the rhinos, which occasionally venture close to the lodge, creating unforgettable safari moments right on your doorstep.

Day 8: Ziwa Rhino Ranch– Jinja (travel time approx. 5 hours)

Early in the morning, you will set out for one of the highlights of your trip. In company of an experienced ranger guide, you will embark on a guided hike to see the white rhinos of the Ziwa Rhino Ranch. On foot, you will approach these magnificent animals and observe them from a safe distance in their natural habitat – an impressive experience rarely possible on traditional safaris. Ziwa was established to reintroduce rhinos to Uganda after they were eradicated by poaching. Besides the rhinos, the ranch also offers a protected habitat for numerous bird species and other wildlife. Afterwards, your journey continues to Jinja, the city at the source of the Nile. In the afternoon, you’ll arrive at your accommodation, picturesquely situated on the banks of the Nile’s rapids. The rest of the day is free for relaxing and enjoying the pool.

Day 9: Jinja

In the morning, you will stroll through a local village. For families, this is often one of the most memorable moments of the trip – a wonderful, eye-opening cultural exchange. In the afternoon, a relaxing “Family Float” awaits you on the Nile. Together, you will drift along calm waters in a raft, passing small islands and, with a bit of luck, observing the diverse birdlife. The route is particularly family-friendly and suitable for children as young as four. Along the way, there will be plenty of opportunities to swim in the Nile – naturally, under the supervision of experienced safety kayakers. Those who prefer a more active experience can choose stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, a quad bike tour, or a horseback ride. At the final safari dinner together, you’ll reminisce about the exciting adventures of the past week with laughter and fond memories.

Day 10: Jinja – Mabamba – Entebbe (travel time approx. 5.5 hours)

In the morning, you will begin your journey back towards Entebbe. En route, you will visit the Mabamba Papyrus Wetland. You will board a small wooden boat with a local ornithologist and navigate the narrow channels of the papyrus swamp. Searching for the legendary shoebill, you will discover many different bird species. Named for its powerful beak, this bird is one of Uganda’s iconic symbols. Afterwards, you will return to Entebbe. A day room will be available for you to freshen up before you’re transferred to the airport in time for your flight home. With a suitcase full of memories, we wish you a safe journey home!
