10 Day Uganda's Hidden Treasure

The next few days are yours to explore Kidepo Valley National Park at your leisure. Depending on your chosen activity, you will be accompanied by a Uganda Wildlife Authority ranger in addition to your guide. You, your guide and the wildlife ranger will decide together which activities you would like to participate in and for how long. Your safari car will, of course, always be available for game drives. A night drive and a walking safari are already included.

Here are some of the options:

Game drives in the Narus Valley: Northern Uganda feature a dry spell from mid-December to February. Rainfall doesn’t start until mid-March. At this time, game drives through the open savannah of the Narus Valley are especially rewarding. Long avenues of sausage trees and Borassus palms line the riverbed, which is dry at this time of year. Large herds of buffaloes, elephants, and antelopes congregate at the remaining waterholes. Lions, in turn, bask in the setting sun on the rocky hills (kopjes). The plains provide a superb hunting ground for lions. Occasionally you might spot cheetahs, but that requires a bit of luck. Of course, you will also find zebras and giraffes here.

Kanatarok Hot Springs: Depending on the season and trail conditions, you can also visit the Kanatarok Hot Springs in the nearby Kidepo Valley. In this area, you may encounter jackals, lesser kudu, and ostriches. However, the area is particularly known for its rare bird species.

Night game drive: Even at night, the animal world has much to offer. After nightfall, with a little luck, you might even spot leopards on a night game drive with a ranger. You might also see some nocturnal bird species.

Walking safari: There’s plenty to experience in Kidepo even without a vehicle. Accompanied by a ranger, you’ll set out on foot to observe the wildlife.
