Jinja is a fun and exciting city in eastern Uganda.
It is most famous for being the home of the source of the Nile. This is where the longest river in the world exit Africa’s largest lake, and it begins its long journey all the way to the Mediterranean Sea in Egypt. But that’s not all—
Jinja is also known as Uganda’s adventure capital. There’s so much to do! You can go white-water rafting, kayaking, tubing, bungee jumping, or horseback riding. You can also try quad biking, mountain biking, or take a relaxing boat ride to the source of the Nile.
If you want to just relax, stay at Wild Waters Lodge, a beautiful and peaceful lodge in the middle of the river, surrounded by rushing rapids and small waterfalls. Don’t miss a visit to the local market! It’s full of color, with fresh fruits, handmade crafts, clothes, and friendly people who are always happy to welcome visitors.
A long time ago, Jinja was just a small fishing village. In 1862, an explorer named John Hanning Speke became the first European to find the source of the Nile. When the British arrived in 1906, they built roads, railways, and factories, and Jinja grew very quickly. Many Indians and Europeans came to live and work here.
With the building of the Owen Falls Dam and the railway, Jinja became Uganda’s most important industrial city. Today, Jinja is full of life and energy. You will see old colonial buildings, busy streets, and happy people everywhere. Tourism is now a big part of the city, and visitors from all over the world come to enjoy Jinja’s natural beauty, rich history, and amazing adventures.
