Stay at least 2 or 3 nights at one place.
One of the easiest ways to make your safari feel more relaxed is to stay a little longer in each destination. As far as we are concerned, two nights should be the minimum. After all, you do not want to arrive in the afternoon, squeeze in a quick activity, and leave again the next morning. That barely gives you time to experience the place.
Ideally, you arrive in the afternoon and spend the rest of the day unwinding. Enjoy the lodge, take a swim, read a book, or simply soak up the surroundings. Then, the next day, you can fully enjoy the activities without feeling rushed.
If you are somewhere for a short time, you won’t get beyond the highlights. If you stay a bit longer, you can do more unique activities in addition to the highlights.
Three nights is even better. It gives you more flexibility and a much more relaxed pace. It also allows you to go beyond the main highlights. Instead of only ticking off the must-sees, you can take time to discover the area’s hidden gems. Often, these are authentic experiences organised by local communities. And they are sometimes the memories that stay with you the longest.
Travel slower, and you will enjoy your lodge much more.
One of the biggest advantages of slowing down is that you actually get to enjoy your lodge. The lodges we usually use are in the mid-range and luxury category.
They are beautiful places in their own right, often with stunning views and lovely swimming pools. Imagine floating in the pool as the sun sets, followed by a relaxed dinner overlooking the landscape. That is part of the experience too. Your accommodation is often one of the biggest investments of your trip. If you move from place to place too quickly, you barely have time to enjoy it. When you stay somewhere for two or three nights, everything feels more relaxed.
You do not always have to rush off before sunrise. You can enjoy a slow morning, spend more time at the lodge, and simply give yourself a little more breathing space. And if you really want something special, we can arrange that too. Think of a lodge with a swimming pool carved into natural rock, surrounded by spectacular scenery. Experiences like that are hard to beat. In fact, as far as we are concerned, no beach can compete with it.
You don’t just want a photo of the pool; you also want to have the time to lie in it.
By traveling slowly, you contribute more.
More and more travellers want their trip to have a positive impact. We think that is a wonderful thing. One of the best ways to support local communities is simply to slow down. When you spend more time in one place, local people have a greater opportunity to benefit from your visit. Across Uganda, communities have created all kinds of experiences. You might visit a coffee farm, learn a traditional skill from local artisans, or join a guided walk through the countryside.
Some of these community-led activities are every bit as memorable as the main highlights of your trip. In fact, many local hikes and experiences feel more authentic than the standard activities that have appeared in safari itineraries for years. By spending time with local communities, you see a different side of Uganda. A more personal side. A more authentic side. And often, those are the moments you remember long after the trip is over.
By staying in a place longer, you give the community the chance to benefit from your stay.
How much time do you need to see Uganda?
The more time you have, the better. Uganda has an incredible amount to offer, and there is always something more to discover. That said, your trip will naturally depend on your budget and the time available. Most travellers spend between 10 and 20 days in the country.
For the best experience, we usually recommend at least 14 to 18 days. This allows you to travel at a comfortable pace, see the main highlights, and still have time for a few special experiences along the way. Think of scenic walks, cultural encounters, and unique activities organised by local communities. If you have less time, that is absolutely fine too.
You can still enjoy an amazing trip. You will simply need to be a little more selective and choose the experiences that matter most to you.
For the most beautiful experience, we recommend coming to Uganda for at least 14 to 18 days.
