This morning, you’ll set off for Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, ready for the most unforgettable adventure of your trip — tracking the mighty mountain gorillas. With experienced Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers leading the way, you’ll trek through the thick jungle, following signs like broken bamboo, nests, and fresh dung that show you are close. The hike can take 2 to 6 hours, but every step is worth it when you finally stand face-to-face with a gentle silverback and his family. Watching these amazing animals in their natural home — so calm, so human-like — is a moment you will remember for the rest of your life.
If you’re not trekking gorillas today, you still have many fun activities to enjoy around Lake Mutanda. You can swim with playful otters, go kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, sailing, or take a motorboat ride on the calm waters. For those who love adventure, hiking in the surrounding hills or trekking the volcanoes in Mgahinga National Park is a great choice. You can also track the rare Golden Monkeys here. For travelers who want more time to relax and enjoy the lake after the gorilla trek, we suggest adding an extra night.
Optional Gorilla Habituation Day: Instead of regular trekking, you can choose a special gorilla habituation experience in Bwindi. This gives you up to four hours with a gorilla family, alongside researchers who are helping these wild gorillas get used to human presence. Only four people are allowed per group, making this a rare and intimate experience — perfect for those who want a deeper connection with these gentle giants.
