Sipi Falls is in eastern Uganda, on the slopes of Mount Elgon, close to the Kenya border. The place feels calm, fresh, and full of nature. You will see coffee farms, small rivers, tall waterfalls, chameleons, and green valleys. Local villages surround the area and give you a true feel of life in rural Uganda. Sipi is perfect for beautiful hikes. Very few tourists come here, so everything feels quiet and pure.

The altitude is about 1600 meters, which means the weather is cool and very comfortable. It is a great place to relax, read a book, and enjoy the view of the falls. This area is one of the greenest places in Uganda. The soil is rich, the plants are thick, and many colorful flowers grow here. If you look closely, you may spot bright chameleons hiding in the leaves. If you want to see “real Uganda,” Sipi Falls is a wonderful choice. It is peaceful, beautiful, and still untouched. You can also combine this trip with a visit to Jinja for even more adventure.

During this trip, you stay in comfortable and welcoming accommodation. We show you different options so you can easily choose what you like. If you want something else, just tell us—we are happy to help.

Day 1: Beautiful drive to the heavenly Sipi Falls

Your adventure begins in the morning.

You set off on a six-hour drive toward the eastern side of Uganda. The road is full of life. You pass bright green farms, small villages, and open landscapes.

As you get closer, the air becomes cooler and fresher. Mount Elgon rises in the distance, welcoming you to Sipi.

When you reach Sipi Heritage Lodge, you hear the sound of rushing water. Only a short walk away, the first waterfall waits for you. Mist fills the air. The falls drop with power and beauty. It is the perfect first welcome to this magical place.

About Sipi Falls

Sipi Falls is a chain of three stunning waterfalls. They lie on the edge of Mount Elgon National Park, right near the Kenya border. The area is calm, green, and full of life. The name “Sipi” comes from the Sep plant, which grows along the river. Locals use it as medicine for flu and measles.

As you explore, you will see coffee farms, fresh streams, chameleons hiding in leaves, and traditional African villages. The views stretch far over the Karamoja plains, glowing gold at sunset.

Wake up to the sound of birds and rushing water. Today is your day of adventure. Put on your hiking shoes and get ready to explore one of the most beautiful places in Uganda. After your hike, you can choose to join a special coffee tour with a local guide.

Sipi Falls Hike

Your local English-speaking guide leads you through green valleys, quiet villages, and rich coffee farms. The path is full of color—wild flowers, bright plants, and clear streams. As you walk, the sound of water gets louder. Then, suddenly, the huge waterfalls appear in front of you.

It feels like stepping into the Garden of Eden. If you choose the full-day hike, you will visit all three waterfalls. Each one is different, powerful, and breathtaking. Keep an eye out for chameleons hiding among the coffee plants. They often change colors as you pass by.

There are many chances to cool off. You can swim in a natural pool or even stand under a waterfall for a refreshing shower. Make sure to pack your swimsuit and a towel. If you prefer an easier day, you can choose a shorter hike. Just tell your guide.

Abseiling / Rock Climbing (Optional)

If you love adventure, this is the place for it. You can abseil down a cliff right next to the 100-meter-high Sipi waterfall. It is thrilling, powerful, and unforgettable. For climbers, several rock routes are available, created by expert Italian climbers.

Sipi Falls Coffee Tour (Optional)

Sipi is famous for its high-quality Arabica coffee. Most farmers here own small pieces of land and work together in a cooperative. Their coffee is loved all over the world. During the tour, you follow the journey of the coffee bean.

You pick fresh cherries, dry them, grind them with a traditional mortar and pestle, roast them, cook them, and of course—drink them. Everything happens at a local farmer’s home.

It is warm, friendly, and full of stories. The farmer also earns a small commission from your visit, so your tour directly supports the community.
