Your itinerary Detail

Day 1: Entebbe

Welcome to Uganda! On arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your Choose Uganda Safaris guide. They will assist you with your luggage and escort you to your comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle. You will then drive to your guesthouse near the airport. 

This day is kept relaxed so you can recover from your journey. Entebbe is a calm lakeside town with a friendly atmosphere. You can enjoy a short walk, relax at the lodge, or try one of the good local restaurants.

Drive: 265 km | 3–4 hours

Today, your safari adventure truly begins. You will drive southwest towards Lake Mburo National Park. Along the way, you will cross the Equator, a great place for photos and a short break. Lake Mburo National Park is one of Uganda’s smallest parks, but it offers a very special experience. 

It is the only park where you can enjoy walking safaris, mountain biking, and horseback safaris. This is possible because there are no lions in the park. You may also choose to go on a boat cruise on Lake Mburo or enjoy a game drive. At night, you can opt for a night game drive. This gives you a chance to see nocturnal animals such as hyenas, leopards, serval cats, and mongoose.

Drive: 313 km | 5+ hours

Today you travel to the beautiful Kigezi Highlands, often called the “Switzerland of Africa.” This region is known for its rolling hills, terraced farms, and deep blue lakes. You will drive towards Lake Mutanda, located near Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. The scenery is stunning and changes constantly along the way. 

Lake Mutanda is a peaceful and scenic place, perfect for slowing down and enjoying nature. At the resort, you can choose from many activities. Swim in the freshwater lake, try stand-up paddleboarding, go kayaking, or take a traditional dugout canoe ride. You can also enjoy birdwatching, village walks, or a sunset boat cruise.

Today you head to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park for golden monkey tracking. These rare and playful monkeys live in the bamboo forests at the base of the Virunga Volcanoes. The trek is active but enjoyable. Golden monkeys move quickly and are fascinating to watch. This experience is unique to this region and is a wonderful addition to your safari. In the afternoon, return to Lake Mutanda and relax. Enjoy the views, the fresh air, and the calm atmosphere of the lake.

Today is one of the highlights of your entire trip. You will go gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Bwindi is home to about half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. The forest is dense and ancient. After a briefing by park rangers, you will begin your trek in small groups. The trek can take several hours and can be challenging. But the reward is incredible. Coming face to face with a family of mountain gorillas in the wild is a deeply moving experience. You will spend one unforgettable hour with them. You will track either the Rushaga or Nkuringo sector, depending on permit availability.

Drive: 283 km | 7+ hours

After breakfast, you drive north to Queen Elizabeth National Park. This is Uganda’s oldest national park and one of its most diverse. The landscape changes often along the way. You will pass forests, crater lakes, open savannas, and wetlands. The park lies between Lake Edward and Lake George and supports a wide variety of wildlife. Enjoy a game drive as you proceed to your lodge. Enjoy the evening surrounded by nature.

Today is dedicated to wildlife viewing. You can enjoy a game drive in the northern part of the park, where animals are often seen in open savanna. Later, you will take a boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel. This channel connects Lake Edward and Lake George and is famous for its high concentration of hippos, crocodiles, elephants, and birds. This is one of the best boat safaris in Africa.

Drive: 153 km | 3 hours

Today you will enjoy a game drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park as you proceed to Kibale Forest near the town of Fort Portal. The drive to Kibale is scenic, passing tea plantations and rolling hills. Kibale National Park is a lush tropical rainforest. It is home to 13 primate species and over 1,500 chimpanzees. It is also a bird lover’s paradise. Arrive at your lodge and relax in the forest setting.

Today you will go chimpanzee trekking. This is a half-day activity, either in the morning or afternoon. With an experienced ranger, you will search for chimpanzees in the forest. Hearing them call and seeing them move through the trees is thrilling. After the trek, you may explore nearby crater lakes. These lakes are perfect for a short walk or a refreshing swim.

Drive: 7–8 hours

Today you travel north to Murchison Falls National Park. This is Uganda’s largest national park and home to the powerful Murchison Falls. Thee drive takes most of the day. Enjoy the changing scenery as you move towards the Nile.

Today you explore the park in depth. In the morning, enjoy a game drive in the northern section. Here you may see elephants, giraffes, lions, buffalo, and antelope. Later, take a boat cruise on the Nile. You can either cruise to the base of the falls.

After breakfast, you begin your return journey to Entebbe. Along the way, stop at Ziwa Rhino & Wildlife Ranch. This is the only place in Uganda where you can track white rhinos on foot. The guided walk takes about one hour and is a special experience. After the visit, continue to Entebbe for your departure flight. Most international flights leave in the evening.
