Access & Location
Apoka Safari Lodge is located inside Kidepo Valley National Park. The closest international airport is Entebbe International Airport. From Kampala, the journey by road is long and adventurous. It takes around 12 hours and passes through remote regions of northern Uganda.
For guests who prefer a faster and more comfortable journey, flights are available. Both scheduled and charter flights operate to Kidepo. The flight usually takes about two hours. The park airstrip is only a few minutes’ drive from the lodge, making air travel very convenient.
The lodge sits on top of a rocky kopje above the Narus Valley. This elevated position offers spectacular views across the plains. Wildlife can often be seen moving below, especially in the early morning and late afternoon. The location is perfect for game viewing and photography.
Facilities at Apoka Safari Lodge
The main lodge area is built at the highest point of the kopje.
This ensures uninterrupted views across the Kidepo plains. The structure is made from timber, stone, and thatch, using a traditional safari design that blends well with the environment.
Inside the communal lodge, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. There is an open-plan lounge, dining area, and bar. Comfortable sofas and armchairs are arranged around coffee tables and patterned rugs. Large open spaces allow fresh air to flow through the building.
Meals are served at a long shared dining table. This creates a friendly and social atmosphere, where guests can share stories and experiences from the day’s activities. The bar is well stocked and is a lovely place to enjoy a drink while watching the sunset over the plains.
A short walk from the main lodge is Apoka’s swimming pool. This pool is truly unique. It has been carved directly out of a large rock. The water is deep, cool, and refreshing. It is the perfect place to relax during the heat of the day, with stunning views all around.
Cottages At Apoka Safari Lodge
Guest accommodation at Apoka Safari Lodge consists of ten spacious cottages. These are located slightly lower on the kopje than the main lodge. Each cottage offers beautiful views of the Narus Valley, open plains, or surrounding mountains.
Six cottages feature a double bed, while four have twin beds. Extra beds can be added for children between the ages of five and twelve. This makes the lodge suitable for families as well as couples and solo travellers. The cottages are built using timber, stone, and thatch, just like the main lodge.
They blend naturally into the rocky landscape. Inside, the rooms are comfortable and thoughtfully designed. Each cottage includes mosquito nets, bedside tables and lamps, soft rugs, and plenty of storage space. The en-suite bathrooms feature a flush toilet, twin washbasins, and a shower with hot and cold running water. One of the most special features of the cottages is the outdoor bathtub.
Each tub is carved directly into the rocks beside the veranda. Guests can enjoy a long soak while watching wildlife move across the valley below. It is a truly unforgettable safari experience.
Every cottage also has a private veranda. This is an ideal place to relax with a book, enjoy a morning coffee, or watch the sunset in complete peace.
