Chimpanzee Tracking in Kibale National Park
Only about an hour’s drive away, Kibale National Park is one of the best places in Africa to see chimpanzees in the wild. Guests can go on guided treks with experienced Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers, following the chimps as they move, play, and call to each other in the forest. The park is also home to 12 other primate species, including red colobus monkeys, L’Hoest’s monkeys, and blue monkeys. For bird lovers, Kibale offers over 350 bird species — including the beautiful African grey parrot and colorful sunbirds.
Semuliki National Park
A drive through the scenic valleys takes you to Semuliki National Park, known for its hot springs, unique forests, and rare plants. The park’s Ituri Forest is a paradise for plant lovers, filled with huge trees and tropical flowers. Guided walks here give you a close look at Uganda’s incredible biodiversity.
Queen Elizabeth National Park
Guests who want a classic safari can visit Queen Elizabeth National Park, about two hours from the lodge. It’s home to lions, elephants, buffaloes, hippos, and many antelopes. The famous Kazinga Channel boat cruise is a great way to see wildlife up close.
Rwenzori Mountains
The Rwenzori Mountains, often called the “Mountains of the Moon,” can be seen from the lodge itself. For adventurous guests, guided hikes or short treks are available in the foothills, offering beautiful scenery, waterfalls, and a chance to meet local communities.
Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi
For guests traveling farther, the lodge can help plan a visit to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to the rare mountain gorillas. Gorilla trekking is one of Africa’s most unforgettable experiences.
Relaxation & Nature Walks
If you prefer a slower pace, you don’t need to go far. The area around Papaya Lake Lodge offers peaceful walks through the gardens and along the crater rim. Guests can watch sunsets over the lakes, enjoy birdwatching, or simply relax by the pool with a drink. Evenings are magical here — the air cools, the sky turns orange, and the calls of frogs and owls fill the night. Many guests gather around the fire pit or terrace to share stories and enjoy the peaceful sounds of nature.
