Access & Location

Mihingo Lodge is easy to reach from both Entebbe International Airport and Kampala. The journey is done by road and takes about four and a half hours.

The drive is scenic and relaxing, passing through countryside, towns, and open landscapes. The lodge is located just 22 kilometres from the main road. Because it sits on an elevated rocky kopje, it is easy to spot as you approach. The raised position also gives guests excellent views in every direction.

Mihingo Lodge is perfectly placed as a stopover between Entebbe or Kampala and Uganda’s western national parks. Many travellers choose to spend a night or two here on their way to or from Bwindi, Queen Elizabeth, or Kibale Forest. It is also an excellent destination on its own.

Accommodation & Facilities At Mihingo Lodge

Mihingo Lodge is built in classic safari style. Timber, stone, and thatch are used throughout the property. These natural materials help the lodge blend beautifully into the surrounding trees and rocky landscape. Nothing feels forced or out of place.

The main lodge areas are designed for comfort and relaxation. There is a welcoming lounge located in a newly built tower. From here, the views are breathtaking. You can sit on deep sofas, relax with a drink, and enjoy the open scenery.

The bar area is another favorite spot. It features a cushioned cement couch where guests can gather and share stories from the day. There is also a good selection of books and reading material. It is a great place to unwind in the afternoon or early evening.

Meals are served in a charming thatched dining area. The food is fresh, well prepared, and full of flavor. While dining, you can admire the surrounding landscape and watch wildlife moving through the park.

Just behind the dining area is a small craft shop. It sells handmade items from many parts of Uganda. These crafts make lovely souvenirs and support local communities.

Guests are welcome to walk through the lodge’s vegetable and herb garden. This garden supplies fresh produce for the kitchen. It also shows the lodge’s commitment to sustainability.

For deep relaxation, the massage rondavel is a must. It is set in a quiet forest area and offers a calm and private atmosphere.

The infinity pool is one of Mihingo’s highlights. It overlooks a waterhole and saltlick, which often attract animals. You can swim, cool off, or simply relax by the pool while watching wildlife. In the evening, lanterns are placed around the pool. This turns the area into a magical sundowner spot under the African night sky.

Tented Rooms At Mihingo Lodge

Mihingo Lodge has just 12 tented rooms. This small number ensures privacy and a peaceful stay. The rooms are spread across the property in different settings.

Some rooms are high on the rocky kopje. Others are hidden within the forest. A few are located close to the waterhole. Each location offers a different experience, but all are equally special.

The design of the rooms is inspired by nature. Kopje rooms include natural rock features. Forest rooms use wood from local trees. This gives every tent a unique character.

All rooms are individually furnished and very comfortable. Features include cozy beds, mosquito nets, solar-powered lighting, storage space, and campaign chairs. Each room also has a private veranda where you can sit and enjoy the views.

The en-suite bathrooms include a flush toilet, washbasin, and a shower with hot and cold running water. The setup is simple, clean, and practical.

Rooms near the waterhole are especially popular, as they offer close wildlife viewing. However, every room at Mihingo provides excellent scenery and a strong connection to nature.

Activities At Mihingo Lodge

Mihingo Lodge offers a wide range of activities for all interests. Whether you enjoy adventure, wildlife, culture, or relaxation, there is something for everyone.

Game drives are a classic way to explore Lake Mburo National Park. Guests can see animals such as zebra, buffalo, impala, eland, warthog, and hippo.

Predators like leopard, hyena, and jackal are also present. Bird lovers will be delighted. Lake Mburo is home to many species, including the shoebill, saddle-billed stork, and black-bellied bustard.

Game drives are also offered outside the park. These drives focus on local life and culture, giving guests a deeper understanding of the area.

Walking Safaris and Viewing Hides

Walking safaris are available both inside and outside the park. Inside the park, guests are always accompanied by an experienced guide. This allows you to explore safely while learning about plants, animals, and tracks. Viewing hides are another great way to observe wildlife quietly and closely. These are perfect for photography and patient animal watching.

Horseback Safaris

Mihingo is famous for its horseback safaris. The lodge has 14 well-trained horses. Rides are suitable for both beginners and experienced riders. Horseback safaris allow you to move silently through the landscape. Animals are often relaxed around horses, making sightings more natural. For a special experience, guests can take an overnight horse safari. This includes riding to a fly camp, spending the night, and returning after breakfast the next morning.

Boat Trips and Water Activities

Boat trips on Lake Mburo are another highlight. These trips offer close views of hippos, crocodiles, and many bird species. The calm water and open views make this a relaxing experience.

Fitness and Cultural Activities

Active guests can enjoy bush biking or running outside the park on community land. These activities offer a fun way to explore the area while staying fit. Cultural visits are also available. You can visit a Bahima homestead, learn about traditional cattle farming, and even try milking a cow. Trips to fishing villages and local schools can also be arranged.

Family-Friendly Experiences

Mihingo Lodge is welcoming to families. Children can join special bush courses designed just for them. These activities help young guests learn about nature in a fun and interactive way.

Extra Experiences

The lodge also hosts regular yoga sessions and behind-the-scenes tours. Bushbabies often visit the lodge at night, especially near the bar area. Watching them play and eat has become a favorite experience for many guests.
