Activities At Apoka Safari Lodge

Apoka Safari Lodge offers a carefully chosen range of activities. These focus on wildlife, nature, and culture. Activities are led by experienced guides who know the park extremely well.

Game Drives

Game drives are the main activity at Apoka. The Narus Valley is known for attracting wildlife throughout the year, thanks to its permanent water sources. This makes it one of the best areas in Uganda for game viewing.

During drives, guests may see lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena, wild dog, elephant, and buffalo. Giraffe, zebra, and many antelope species are also common. The open savannah around the lodge supports both herbivores and predators. Smaller and rarer species can also be spotted. These include bat-eared fox, black-backed jackal, side-striped jackal, and several primate species.

Guided Game Walks

Guided walks offer a more intimate way to explore Kidepo. Walking with a knowledgeable guide allows guests to learn about animal tracks, plants, and smaller creatures. It is a slower and more detailed safari experience.

Bird Watching

Kidepo Valley National Park is a paradise for bird lovers. Over 470 bird species have been recorded in the park. Birders can look out for ostrich, kori bustard, red-and-yellow barbet, and little bee-eater. Special Kidepo highlights include the pygmy falcon, white-eyed kestrel, golden pipit, and rose-ringed parakeet. The varied habitats around Apoka make birding rewarding throughout the year.

Community Visits

Cultural visits to nearby Karamojong villages are available. These visits give guests a chance to learn about the traditions and daily life of the local people. Guests can discover how the Karamojong live, herd cattle, and maintain their strong cultural identity.
