Anyandwe House

Anyandwe House

Anyadwe House is a beautiful, private riverside villa on the south bank of the River Nile, next to Murchison Falls National Park. It is one of Uganda’s most exclusive places to stay, designed for comfort, peace, and a close connection with nature.

The word “Anyadwe” comes from the Acholi language, meaning “Daughter of the Moon.” The name was inspired by Florence Baker, wife of explorer Samuel Baker, who explored this region in the 1880s. Local people admired her beauty and gave her that name because of her fair hair that shone under the moonlight. Today, Anyadwe House keeps that same romantic spirit.

It welcomes small groups, families, or friends who want a private safari home with stunning river views, delicious food, and warm Ugandan hospitality.

Access & Location

Anyadwe House sits right next to Murchison Falls National Park, one of Uganda’s best-known safari destinations.

  • By road: The drive from Kampala takes about 5–6 hours (around 305 km). You travel north towards Masindi, then through the Kichumbanyobo Gate into the park.
  • By air: You can fly from Entebbe International Airport to Bugungu Airstrip (20 minutes away) or Pakuba Airstrip (about 40 minutes away). The house can arrange transfers from either airstrip.

Once you arrive, the setting will take your breath away — rolling grasslands, giant fig trees, and the Nile River flowing past just below your veranda.

Accommodation & Facilities At Anyandwe House

Anyadwe House has only four luxurious en-suite bedrooms, making it perfect for small groups or families (up to 8 guests). Each room is bright, airy, and stylish, with solid wooden furniture, hanging mosquito nets, and local African art that adds warmth and charm.

Each bedroom includes:

  • A king-size or twin bed
  • A private bathroom with solar-heated water and double wash basins
  • A ceiling fan
  • Large windows and a private veranda with amazing river views

Guests can relax in the spacious lounge, enjoy meals in the indoor dining area, or sip cocktails on the upper-level terrace as the sun sets over the Nile. There’s also an outdoor pool with loungers for sunbathing, a barbecue area, and a private jetty for river access.

Although the house comes fully staffed with chefs, housekeepers, and guides, guests can also use a kitchen prep area to make their own snacks or drinks if they wish.

Activities At Anyandwe House

Staying at Anyadwe House gives you access to many exciting activities both on land and on water. Here are the top things to do:

1. Game Drives

Enjoy guided wildlife drives in Murchison Falls National Park. Cross the new Nile bridge to reach the northern side, where open savannah grasslands are home to elephants, lions, giraffes, buffaloes, leopards, and many antelopes. You can also explore new tracks on the southern bank for a quieter, bushier safari experience.

2. Boat Safaris to Murchison Falls

Take a private boat trip straight from the house’s private jetty to see the mighty Murchison Falls. This 3–4 hour cruise lets you watch hippos, crocodiles, elephants, and colorful waterbirds along the riverbanks. You can combine the trip with a hike to the top of the falls or a bush lunch at the summit.

3. Delta Boat Cruises

Go downstream to the Victoria Nile Delta, a calm and scenic area famous for rare birds like the shoebill stork. Morning cruises are especially beautiful, with mist rising from the water. Breakfast can be served on board for a peaceful start to the day.

4. Visit The Top of Murchison Falls

Take a guided hike to see the powerful 8-meter-wide gorge where the Nile squeezes through the rocks before plunging down in thunder. You can view the falls from several angles, walk down to the bottom, or enjoy a combination of boat and walking safaris.

5. Sport Fishing

The Nile is one of Africa’s best rivers for sport fishing. You can try catching Nile perch and catfish with the help of local guides. Fishing is done on a catch-and-release basis to protect the species.

6. Chimpanzee Trekking in Budongo Forest

About 45 minutes away, Budongo Forest is home to a large group of wild chimpanzees. Join a half-day trek to watch them play, feed, and interact in their natural habitat. You might also see colobus monkeys, baboons, and many bird species.

7. Sundowner or Breakfast Cruises

Relax on a sunset cruise with drinks and snacks as the golden light reflects on the river, or start your day with a calm breakfast cruise. Both are unforgettable experiences on the Nile.

Conservation & Community

Anyadwe House is part of the Baker’s Lodge group, which works to protect nature and support local communities. A small donation from every guest stay goes to the Future Generations Trust, funding wildlife protection and community projects around the park. By staying here, you help keep this incredible part of Uganda safe and sustainable for the future.
